Overhauling Obadiah – Iron Man

[ad_1]

Is Iron Man the greatest comic book movie ever made? Maybe. Definitely in the top three. But it does have one pretty clear flaw.

The villain doesn’t work.

So I take a look at if we can change one thing about Obadiah Stane to make Iron Man an even better movie.

The fact that Tony didnt give the technology to the Government is integral to Tony and his growth as a character. Even in that first movie. Obadiah was also never in any fashion meant to be a relatable bad guy. He was MEANT to be a polar opposite to Tony's newfound morals, explicitly BECAUSE of what Obidiah does. I think you're overreaching.

Wait a minute, what's Tony's and Obadiah's conflict gonna be if Tony doesn't shut down the weapons manufacturing of Stark Industries? Is he just gonna return and ignore the limelight? There needs to be something there

Can we all just agree how badass of a name Obadiah is?

I do understand your points. But I still think Obadiah is more threatening and interesting if he set everything in motion and your suggestion makes him even more like a business villain in a suit.

MARVEL WANTS TO KNOW YOUR LOCATION

Obadiah should also hate Tony to some extent, Here's why. Obadiah worked with the company why longer than Tony, Obadiah worked as an companion to Anthony Stark when he was still alive and running the company. Obadiah put in years of work trying to keep up with Stark Industries so it wouldn't be shut down or ran out of business, but even with all these hours Tony Stark was still gifted the ownership of the Company instead of him. He wanted it, he worked for it. This made Obadiah furious, he hated Tony for this. He hated him even more when he tried shutting down the company he worked hard for years. That's why he would of hire the terrorist before he shut down the company, because he already hated him. I do agree with what you said, but I still think he should have a reason to hate him.

Hes perfect

This change, Tony going after the system, would be a great setup for the government friction he deals with in Iron Man 2.

Movies don't need villains that are relatable and the ones who like what they do without looking childish are the best.

I think they should have done these movies with both a single move plot and a three movie arch and Obadiah should have been the three move arch with his story in each of th4e movies highlighting his frustration with stark basically your Obadiah plot idea stretched over ironman 1 2 and 3 with iron man 3 being when Obadiah finally turns

3000

Since Obadiah won't come up again in the MCU, this is literally my head canon leading into Endgame 🙂

Main problem with this change is that it's critical of U.S. military policy, positioning the military industrial complex as an evil, or at least corrupting influence on the world. Why is this a problem? Because Iron Man (among a handful of MCU films) got to use military equipment from the Pentagon in exchange for giving them final script approval. Literal military propaganda would stand in the way of this idea even if you were in the writer's room at the time!

The interesting thing about this analysis is that this arc is completely contained in the original film, and in Bridges' performance and scripting of Stane. The only thing that would be necessary to make this shift would be to cut out a few pieces of dialogue from Obadiah and the whole scene that shows him working with the terrorists

Are yoy a script doctor? You really should be a script doctor.

Doesn't moving Tony stopping wepons manufacturing to the end remove your Obedia's modivations to a point? If they're still making weapons the company shouldn't have the sudden downturn and no problem for Stain?

December 24, 2019

I hate how believable the reworked charity scene is, "I don't k ow, we sold them to the government, they probably gave them to some rebels, the rebels switched sides. You know how this works."

December 24, 2019

your idea would only work if the 2 of them are the same age, but he is old and double as a uncle/father figure.

December 24, 2019

I like this, but where does the iron manning come in? Obadiah still makes a mongrel yes?

December 24, 2019

I like this because it could bring in a legit Mandarin leader of the terrorists in Ironman 3
